New Years Day
In the name of Jesus
Based On: Philippians 2:9-13
Did you know that the New Testament name, Jesus, and the Old Testament name, Joshua, are really the same name? They both come from the Hebrew word, Yeshua. The reason they sound different is that words are often pronounced differently when they move from one language to another and the name “Jesus” has gone from Hebrew to Greek to Latin to English. But however you pronounce it, the personal name of our Savior means, “The LORD saves”.
A Time to Ponder Time
Have you ever thought about time? I don't mean, “What time is it?” or “What time do we eat?”. I mean have you ever thought about the flow of time – how time continues to pass from one day to the next and from one year to the next.
The passage of a New Year can bring both joy and sadness as we remember both the good times and the troubled times – the births, the funerals, the fellowship, the broken relationships, and how each of us is a year older and a year closer to eternal youth.
Blessings in the New Year
Based on: Numbers 6:22-27
Now that one more year has passed and a new one has begun, wouldn't it be nice to know how this new year is going to go. Wouldn’t it be nice to know what is going to happen in this coming year. Actually, you already know. I told you last Sunday in the worship service. I also told you on the Sunday before that.
