Mount of Beatitudes
Thought to be the location of the Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount which included the Beatitudes (“blessing” in Latin), recorded in Matthew 5-7 and Luke 6:17-49. It is located near Capernaum on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee. In the 4th century the Byzantines built a church at the bottom of the hill to commemorate the event. A Catholic chapel was built in 1939 at the top of the mountain.
