Yardenit is a place along the Jordan river near the sea of Galilee where people come to be baptized.  This site is not connected with any biblical event, but was established by the Israeli Ministry of Tourism in 1981 for the purpose of providing a safe place for Christians to be baptized in the Jordan River.  The traditional site for the baptism of Jesus is at the southern end of the Jordan River and was closed for many years because of conflict between Israel and the country of Jordan.
