Winter lasted all year in Narnia while the White Witch ruled. The land was cold and lifeless at the beginning of C.S. Lewis’s book, “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,” but it didn’t stay that way. When Aslan the Lion came and his powerful roar was heard throughout Narnia, Spring also came. The land came to life and turned green and warm.
At one time we were dead, spiritually dead, and in our heart there was a cold and lifeless winter that would not end. Our heart was encased by the ice of sin and death, but as hard and as cold as that ice was it could not stay frozen in the presence of the “Lion of the tribe of Judah.” Our Lord Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” Jesus is our Life. He brought Spring into our hearts and created new life in that lifeless land.
Every year God gives us a reminder of the change that has taken place in our hearts. The cold frozen ground thaws and new life emerges: the grass turns green, flowers bud, and color returns to a formerly grey and brown landscape. Our Lord has brought life to a lifeless heart and so any time of the year is the right time of year to say, “Spring is here.”
